SNF Tennis Club
Executive Board Minutes for March 4, 2019
Location Pine Room, Sun-n-Fun
Attendees: Terry Black, Richard Brown, Bonnie DeSiro, Bob Dougherty, Mark Eshleman, Cathy Harrington, Don Harrington, Ann Sowle, Wade Wilkerson
Members not present: Joan Axtt
Guest: Sophie Harrington
- Don Harrington called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m.
- Minutes of the Feb 4 meeting were read. Sowle noted that the Coed Tournament was March 2, not March 1. Minutes were approved unanimously as corrected.
- Cathy Harrington reported for the treasurer that the current balance is $683.46. This does not include outstanding bills from the Coed Tourney.
- Wilkerson moved and Brown seconded the following motion for the court usage schedule for the rest of this season. The motion passed with 6 votes in favor, 1 vote against (Black’s), and 2 abstentions (Bob and Cathy).
- Except for Thursday and Saturday, social tennis will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon on courts 4, 5, and 6 every day.
- The East Ladder (“Thursday Ladder”) will be on courts 1, 2, and 4 on Thursday starting at 8:30.
- Saturday is an open play on all courts.
- The cost for the March Tennis Banquet was set at $5 for Tennis Club Members and $10 for guests.
- DeSiro asked that the effort required for doing the tennis banquets be scaled down. Specifically, she needs help the night of the banquet in moving the food from her unit to Woodland Hall and in slicing the meat. Brown and Black offered to help move the food. Black, Harrington, and Wilkerson offered to operate the slicer.
- In a further effort to scale down tennis tourney dinner effort, there was a consensus that next season the December tourney dinner will feature pizza, the January dinner will be a potluck, and the March dinner will be, as in several years past, a “grand banquet.”
- The Coed Tourney was acknowledged to have been greatly enjoyed but too arduous for the players. Black said for the next Coed tournament the format will be changed. He’s considering one mini set per contest consisting of 8 no-ad games and a Coman 7 point tie breaker (if needed at 4 games each) but the first team to 5 games wins.
- Harrington agreed to ask at the March meeting if next year there should be two coed tournaments.
- The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted, March 5, 2019
Wade W. Wilkerson, Secretary
With concurrence of Don Harrington, President
