Members not present: Bob Dougherty, Cathy Harrington
1. President D. Harrington called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
2. The minutes of the November 11, 2018 meeting were read and approved unanimously.
3. D. Harrington relayed this message from Cathy Harrington: JoJo Laramie and Michelle
Krug will conduct the 50/50 raffle at the banquet this coming Saturday.
4. Treasurer Joan Axtt reported that we currently have a balance of $493.53. Tournament
Chair Terry Black reported that he has collected $563 in tournament fees, dinners, and
annual dues. He transferred $270 in cash to Joan at the meeting.
Old Business:
5. Bonnie DeSiro priced new sheds at $800 to $1,000. She will talk with the SNF Office to
request that a new shed be installed by court 1 or 2.
6. Courts 1 and 2 have been resurfaced and the sinkhole at the back of Court 1 was repaired
.
7. The court 6 shed was electrified (for the ball machine) by way of a long extension cord.
All equipment previously in the old shed by Court 3 is now in the Court 6 shed. It was
noted that the Court 6 shed will not be large enough to store nets, wind screens, and
benches at the end of the season in addition to the ball machine and baskets of practice
balls.
8. Wade Wilkerson moved that if bricks for Gordon Strout and Al Saddell have not been
purchased then we should order and pay for them for installation in the tennis area of the
memorial garden. Harrington seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
(subsequent to the meeting, it was found that both bricks have been purchased and
installed)
New Business:
9. After discussion, the names of the ladders were changed. The Ladder previously known as
the “Tuesday Ladder” will now be the “East End Ladder” and the Ladder previously known
as the “West End Ladder” will be the “West End Ladder.”
10. Starting the week beginning Sunday Dec 9, the East End Ladder will be on Thursday and
will continue to start at 8:30. An exception is the East End Ladder will not meet on
December 27. The West End ladder will start on Jan 2.
11. Rules for court usage were established as follows:
• Courts 1 is open for match play 8 a.m. to noon.
• Court 2, 4, and 5 are open for match play 8 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Social rotation has
priority after 10:00 a.m.
• Court 6 social from 9 a.m. to noon.
12. The banquet on Dec 8 will start at 5:00 p.m. at Woodland Hall for cocktails and 6:00 p.m.
for dinner.
13. The 50/50 income from the banquet will go into the Sun-n-Fun Tennis Club treasury.
14. Terry Black reported that the tourney will consist of three groups of eight players each.
Player assignments to groups will be made by Black and Eshleman. Finals will be played
on Courts 1 and 2.
15. There was consensus that seating between Courts 1 or 2 during tournaments is for players
only.
16. DeSiro noted that a new clock is needed for Courts 1 and 2. She was authorized to
purchase one.
17. It was agreed that all members of the Tennis Club should be told the combination of the
lock on the shed by Court 6 if they request it. It was also agreed that the combination
would be distributed to members on request and not posted or published. Board members
in attendance were told the combination.
18. The next meeting will be at 3:00 on January 7, 2019 in the Magnolia Room.
19. The meeting was adjourned at 4:07 p.m.
