Tennis Executive Board Meeting

The first Tennis Executive Board meeting of the season was held on Monday Nov 6, 2017 presided over by Don Harrington (President).
Members present were Don Harrington, Scott Foster, Richard Brown, Bonnie DeSiro, Larry Day, Cathy Harrington, Bob Dougherty, Joan Axtt.
Members absent were Ann Sowle, Terry Black, Mark Eshleman and Mary Lou Zakrzewski.
In Mary Lou’s absence, Bob Dougherty read the minutes of the last meeting (April 5). These minutes were accepted and approved,
The Treasurers report was read by Joan Axtt and accepted. The current balance is $478.49.
Old Business:
Don mentioned that he had ordered during the late spring and summer Memorial bricks to be placed in the Butterfly Garden for Jim Andrews and Roch Blouin. The park has installed these bricks. These bricks cost $33 and are paid out of the Tennis Treasury.
The status of the windscreens on courts 1-6 was discussed. Screens on courts 1-3 were rolled up and fastened at the top at the end of the season last spring. These screens made it through the summer and Hurricane Irma in fine condition. In the future it should be the standard practice for all courts at the end of the season. (Subsequent to the meeting, Scott, Larry and Don rolled the screens on courts 1-3 down and fastened them at the bottom. Don will schedule a work party to install the screens on courts 4-6 as soon as more tennis members are here.
New Business:
Don announced that the former Tuesday tennis ladder would be moved to Thursday. This was done to remove the conflict with the Pickleball ladder which is played on Tuesday and will allow Tennis players if they choose to play in both ladders. The first Thursday tennis ladder will be scheduled Nov 16. Don and Mark will make the pairings for the first week after it is determined who will play that week.
Don stated that the net on court 2 needed to be replaced and that there was a new net in the shed next to court 6. (Subsequent to the meeting Don and Richard replaced the net). Don will order a new net so that we will have a spare.
Bonnie stated the bulletin board between Courts 1 and 2 needed some repair. She took an action to clean it up and repair it.
Bonnie requested the use of all courts for the West End (Wednesday) ladder which starts on January 3. There is currently a conflict on court 3 as Pickleball currently has it on Wednesday mornings. Don will discuss this with Chris Schneider to see if the conflict can be resolved.
Don announced the dates for the Dec, Jan and March tournaments:
December 7-9. Banquet in the Pavilion
January 18-20. Banquet in the Cypress Room
March 22-24. Banquet in Woodland Hall
The next meeting will be on Dec 4 in the Magnolia room at 3:15
