Welcome back to Sun N Fun tennis during the pandemic.
There is very little activity here in the park as all Canadian homeowners have remained in Canada. Those Americans who winter in the park are slow to return. However, a few have returned and are playing tennis. A small group made up the work party that lowered the screens and secured them on the bottom. Then a typical storm also known as Hurricane Eta made landfall very close to Sarasota. The winds were strong but the rain was tremendous. A child's bucket in the back of our unit filled to the top, approximately 6 inches. The live oaks dropped leaves, branches, and moss by the square yard. The pines dropped a season of needles in one long day.
The next day, saw homeowners evaluating the damage, if any, and cleaning up the vegetation. To my knowledge, there wasn't any serious damage. I suspect some water seeped into ground level lanais, but unless you count flooded streets, there was little to drive around. No roofs lifted or units overturned and no trees uprooted. We did have to fix some screens at courts one and two, but nothing like the pickleball courts that required almost all screens to be rehung. Courts 4-6 experienced no damage.
Assigned the COO designation by our president, yours truly attended the first club chairpersons meeting hosted by Melissa H. in Woodland Hall. She asked for a covid 19 plan be submitted by every club before the first activity. I checked the USTA website for suggestions and copied many of their ideas. Our plan must have passed muster as we have not been contacted to stop play.
If you are looking to play tennis, on MWF, on courts 1 & 2, at 8:30 am, there is a small group playing rotation for a couple hours. Otherwise, foursomes are making up their own play whenever they want.
